Struggling to balance your hormones? Seed cycling might be your answer! Find out what seeds to use, how they can balance your hormones, and how to incorporate them into your daily routine.
🌸 Our hormones are a complex system that flow in a delicate balance. When we are out of balance, likely our hormones are too. 🌸
Some signs your hormones are out of whack:
increased sensitivity to cold or heat
constipation or more frequent bowel movements
If you're experiencing these types of symptoms, it might be time to turn a natural remedy like seed cycling to get rid of them.
What is seed cycling?
When you start seed cycling, you introduce different seeds into your diet during the two phases of your menstrual cycle (follicular and luteal). This practice helps to balance your estrogen and progesterone hormones.
Seed cycling = happy hormones! 💃
How to practice seed cycling?
Before you start seed cycling, it's best to first understand the two phases of your menstrual cycle: follicular and luteal.
The average menstrual cycle is 28 days, with day 1 marking the first day of your period. Then, somewhere around day 14 is your ovulation.
So, the first 14 days is your follicular phase and the last 14 (after your ovulation) is your luteal phase. But what does that mean? When your hormone levels are balanced, estrogen rises during the first half of your cycle. During the second half, progesterone levels rise as estrogen levels slowly decline. An imbalance between estrogen and progesterone hormones can contribute to any number of the symptoms listed above.
Phase 1: Seed Cycling Days 1 - 14 (menstruation to ovulation):
1 tbsp freshly ground flax seeds daily
1 tbsp pumpkin seeds daily
Phase 2: Seed Cycling Days 15 - 28 (ovulation to menstruation)
1 tbsp hulled sesame daily
1 tbsp sunflower seeds
Who should seed cycle?
Seed cycling is a natural remedy free of synthetic hormones! Our hormones are highly influenced by what we eat along with our sleeping habits, stress levels, environment, and daily routines. If you are having trouble with irregular or painful periods, PMS, PMDD, adult acne, or any other hormonal imbalance you should give this a try!
How does seed cycling work in balancing hormones?
There's not a lot of scientific evidence necessarily proving that seed cycling is effective, but that doesn't mean it doesn't work. When turning to natural remedies, it's good to keep an open mind and remember that natural is typically a safe and healthy alternative. That being said, I've been doing seed cycling myself for a while as well as the ladies in my seed cycling group and we all have been seeing improvements with our hormones! Of course, we are also making changes to our lifestyle and exercise routines.
While studies don’t directly link to seed cycling to hormonal balance, they do show that the components in pumpkin, flax, sesame, and sunflower seeds may play a part in supporting a healthy cycle.
Plus, when seed cycling, you'll be giving your body lots of nutritional components like zinc, lignans, omega-3s, omega-6s, selenium, and vitamin e. And these vitamins and minerals go beyond just helping your hormones!
🌸 The key to a healthy body is to maintain a balanced life. 🌸
